Nick Pietrocola 's Obituary
Nick R. Pietrocola, 80, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Born on March 27, 1936 in Alliance, Ohio to Nick and Adele (Santoro) Pietrocola, he lived in Alliance for all of his life.
A graduate of Alliance High School Class of 1954, he also attended Mt. Union College.
Nick was member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church and formerly served as an usher and collection counter. He also volunteered for their Lenten Fish Fry and sold tickets for their Mardi Gras.
He was a 60-year member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council #558, and member of the 4th Degree. He received a "Knight of the Year" award and was a member of the K of C Bowling League for many years.
Nick had previously been employed at Bretean's Market, Morgan Engineering Co. and Tommy Auto Supply. He worked most of his career and retired from Henschen Motor Co. as a Sales Manager. He was a member of the Cadillac Master Sales Manager Association and the Pontiac Master Sales Manager Association. Nick received the Cadillac Master Manager Award for outstanding leadership and sales excellence. Following his retirement, he moved south (1 Block) to be a greeter for Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home
Nick was Past President and member of the Alliance Kiwanis Club, and was a volunteer and one of the top ticket sellers for their Pancake Breakfast Jamboree and worked their Waffle booth at Carnation Days in the Park; Life member and Corresponding Secretary of the Christopher Columbus Society, Life Member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #467; Past President of the Carnation Festival Board; Friends of the Library, Alliance Historical Society; Castle Crusaders; the Alliance Area Senior Center and a member of their Board of Trustees, where he enjoyed playing Shuffleboard.
He was a former member of the Alliance School Board and Past President of the former Alliance Booster Club; current member of the Aviator Sports Boosters; where he was an active volunteer, especially with Tournament Concessions, as past co-chair of Senior Posters.
He was a supporter of Alliance Hot Stove Baseball, an avid sports fan, faithfully following the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers and Browns. He was a lifelong fan and supporter of both Alliance High School Athletics and the Mt. Union Purple Raiders football and basketball teams.
Nick enjoyed his cars, both new and historic, and attended many car shows. He had been active with the Carnation Auto Classics Car Club.
Nick always looked forward to the family's yearly trips to Disney World, most recently celebrating Christmas and New Year’s there. Most of all, he was a people person and enjoyed interacting with others, especially his grandsons, who were the light of his life and he enjoyed being involved with their activities.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine A (Rich) Pietrocola, whom he married on May 12, 1956; daughter, Stephanie (Craig) Unckrich; two grandsons, Corey (Clare Maskow) Unckrich and Michael Unckrich; sister, Elma (Fred) Kirven; brother-in-law, James Rich; aunt, Anne Santoro; three nieces, Colleen (Dan) Lucarell, Carrie (Dave) Huspaska, Shelly (Jon) Christopherson; nephew, Todd (Renee) Rich; and several great-nieces & nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents; aunt, who helped raise him, Edith Santoro; sister, Joanna Pietrocola; aunt, Julia (Frank) Retone; four uncles, Umberto "Al" (Wilma "Jerry") Santoro, Armand Santoro, Gus Pietrocola, Guido Pietrocola; father and mother-in-law, Nick and Ann Rich; and sister-in-law, Sharon Rich.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. A K of C Service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10:00 am at Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
