Michael J. Conny's Obituary
Michael J. "Mickey" Conny, 93, of Alliance, passed away at McCrea Manor on Monday, December 14, 2009. He was born on May 8, 1916 in Canton, and lived in the Alliance-Sebring area all of his life. Mike was a graduate of Sebring McKinley High School and he attended Mt. Union College. He was a charter member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. After his retirement from the Royal China Co. in Sebring, as a mold maker, Mickey owned and operated Conny s Varsity Isle until his retirement. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. Mr. Conny was a life member of the American Legion post 166. Mickey was also a life member of the Alliance B.P.O. Elks #467 and was a past senior counselor of United Commercial Travelers. Mike loved sports and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Hot Stove League for many years and sponsored the Varsity Isle team. He was elected to the Alliance Bowlers Hall of Fame. He loved golf and was a member of the Hole in One Club at Bird Bay Executive Golf Course in Venice, FL, where he loved spending his winters, with a record of six hole in ones. Mike is survived by his brothers, James R. Conny, Henry P. Conny, Anthony J. Conny and Donald E. Conny. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his first wife, Mary S. Conny on April 15, 1977 and by his second wife, Marjorie J. Conny on May 19, 2008; his parents, Anthony and Beatrice (DeCato) Conny; sisters, Ann Conny, Mary Seruch and Sandra Weber; brothers, Frank Conny and Nick Conny; and a niece, Peggy Windle. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, December 17, 2009 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Friday, December 18, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Entombment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park. The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff at McCrea Manor and Alliance Visiting Nurses and Hospice for taking such good care of Mike. The family will truly miss him.
