Melvin R. Virden 's Obituary
Melvin R. Virden, 80, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12:48 am at Aultman Hospital.
Born on April 2, 1936 in Friendly, West Virginia to Truman Ernest and Edna (Northcraft) Virden, he lived in Alliance for most of his life.
He attended Sistersville High School, in West Virginia before entering the service.
He served our country in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Newfoundland, Canada where he met the love of his life.
Melvin was employed at Alliance Machine Co. as a Fitter for 40 years and was a member of American Legion, Post 166.
Melvin was an avid mechanic, both automobiles and tractors, and enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary P. "Patsy" (Neville) Virden; his son, Truman "Ernie" Virden of Alliance; his daughter, Glenda (Tim) Shellenberger of Venice, FL; four grandchildren, Shannon (John) Grooms, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Trissel, Melissa (Fritz) Trissel and Joseph (April) Trissel; six great-grandchildren, Austin, Mozell, Daveion, Tristin, Gracie and Nathan; two sisters, Anna Dailey of Friendly, WV and Mary Stine of Newport, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Joseph L. Virden and Norman Virden.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. His Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park.
