Melba M. Savage's Obituary
Melba M. Savage, 88, of Alliance, died Saturday, May 23, 2015 following a brief illness at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born January 23, 1927 in Ava, Ohio, to Edgar J. and Irene (Bailey) Hoebeke and was a lifelong resident of Alliance.
She was homemaker, and also worked as a waitress at several local restaurants, as well as at Alliance Rubber Company for many years. Melba was a terrific cook, had a quick wit and keen sense of humor.
Mrs. Savage belonged to the local “Red Hats” organization and enjoyed participating in their many activities. Melba loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs over the years. She also was also active in the Alliance Area Senior Center and loved to travel with them. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she had many dear friends.
She worked tirelessly to support the advancement of her family and was idolized by that family. She was affectionately nicknamed Barney (Oldfield) because she wasted no time in driving from one point to another.
Melba’s husband Raymond was a veteran of WW II, and the Korean War, and a longtime Tool and Die Maker at Alliance Manufacturing.
Melba is survived by her two sons, Ellery (C.J.) of Milford, Ohio, Gary (Paula) of Alliance, a daughter Cheryl (Paul) Newton of Jefferson, Maryland; and sisters Shirley (Bob) Best of Florida, and Carolyn (Bill) Drakulich of Atwater, Ohio.
