Mary Eileen Sams' Obituary
Mary Eileen Sams, 84, of Alliance, died on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 7:50 p.m. at her home. Born in Alliance on October 12, 1921, she had lived in Alliance for all of her life. A 1940 graduate of Alliance High School, she retired as a seamstress from J.C. Penny Co. in Downtown Alliance in 1983 and continued as an in-home alterations specialist. Mrs. Sams was a member of the Beechwood United Methodist Church since 1960. She was also a member of the V.F.W Auxiliary #6730; American Legion Auxiliary, Post 76; Mended Hearts; Swinging Sixties Bowling League; Alliance Senior Citizens Center; Beechwood Pioneers; and the Mothers of Twins. Mary enjoyed working crossword puzzles, bowling, sewing and loved spending time with her family and extended family. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald L. Sams; daughters, Diana (Larry) Hagedorn of Alliance, Jacquline (Owen) Stevens of Alliance, Treva (David) Tuel of Alliance, Nora (James) Haymaker of Minerva, Arlene (Michael) Umberger of Marlboro and Penny Sams of Massillon; sons, Robert (Patricia) Sams of Alliance and David Sams of the home; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Oyster of Alliance; brothers, Lawrence "Red" (Margaret) Allison of Alliance and Robert (Marilyn) Allcorn of Burnsville, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth N. Sams, a daughter, Marlene K. Sams; parents, Emmett D. and Ethel (Stevens) Allcorn; sisters, Dorothy White and Frances Allcorn; and brothers, Emmett D. Allcorn, Jr. and Raymond Allcorn. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, 2006, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and also on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Richard Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
