Mary Karvel's Obituary
Mary Karvel, 88, of Alliance, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 2:15 p.m. at Community Care Center in Alliance. Born on June 29, 1924 in Toledo, OH, she lived in Alliance most of her life. A 1942 graduate of Alliance High School, she was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church of Canton. Mrs. Karvel had been a volunteer at Alliance Community Hospital for 18 years and was a member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Chapter #50. Survivors include two daughters, Marcella (Thomas) McGuire of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Georgette Glasser of Alliance, OH; two sons, James M. (Tina) Karvel of Circleville, OH and George (Vicki) Karvel, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA.; four grandchildren, James Glasser, Jr, Christopher Karvel-McGuire, Alexandra Karvel and Ian Karvel; one great-grandson, R.J. Snyder; a brother, Peter Zantal of Bethesda, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, George Karvel, Sr., on June 25, 1997, whom she married on September 29, 1947; and her parents, James and Katherine (Kavounos) Zantal. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Protopresbyter Nicholas V. Gamvas, of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church of Canton, officiating. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
