Mary Jayne Fulop's Obituary
Mary Jayne ( Dailey) Fulop, 98, of Alliance died on August 2,, 2019 at Danbury Senior Living, surrounded by her daughters. She was born October 26, 1920 to William P. and Tressa Daily (Zicarrdi) and lived in Alliance all her life.
Tressa died when Mary Jayne was only 18 months old. Since her father could not care for her or her sister, Mary Jayne went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Perkins of Alliance.
When her father remarried, she moved to Cleveland where she attended Lakewood High School. She later moved back to Alliance and was a 1938 graduate of Alliance High School. She moved back to Cleveland where she attended Spencerian Business College and graduated in 1941. She then worked in Alliance as a legal secretary for Attorney Victor Blumensteil. At that time, Mary Jayne began her life-long avocation of volunteering which started when she became a driver for the Woman’s Civil Defense Corp.
In 1943 she traveled by train to Coupeville, WA where she married John Michael Fulop who was stationed on Whidbey Island. While there, she worked at the Oak Harbor Washington Naval Base. After her husband was deployed she returned to Alliance.
In April 1945 she joined the First Presbyterian Church. She served as both an Elder and a Deacon in the church. She was also secretary of the Woman’s Congregational Society,and served on various committees during her lifetime.
Mary Jayne worked as a homemaker for all of her married life. But when widowed in 1972 she went to work at Alliance City Hall. After her retirement she began her 30 year volunteer career at Alliance City Hospital where she spent most of her time working in the gift shop. She served as an RSVP volunteer for 10 years. She enjoyed volunteering for the Homework Assistance program at Bethany Presbyterian Church, at the Good Samaritan Health Clinic, and delivering Meals on Wheels.
Mary Jayne was passionate about line dancing. She danced with the Shy Violets at the First Presbyterian Church and also with a group at the Alliance Area Senior Center. She enjoyed working in her yard, collecting recipes and sorting the many photographs she had acquired over the years.
Mary Jayne is survived by her children Judith J. Eubanks of La Crosse, WI, Kathleen Benish of Flint, MI, a son Dr. Michael J. Fulop ( Dr.Antonia Forster) of Portland, OR, her 5 grandchildren; Richard and Brian Eubanks, Hannah and Harrison Fulop, and Jeffrey Benish; 4 great-grandchildren; Kate and Eli Eubanks, Issabell Littleton, and Lorenzo Benish, a nephew Scott McKee(Mary Ann),and nieces Dr. Joyce Karl(Denny Karl), Dr. Molly Merryman (Lauren Vachon), Rebecca Merryman (Tim Williams) and special friend Jack Walker.
Mary Jayne was preceded in death by her husband John M. Fulop, her parents, brother (Billy Dailey) and a sister (Ellen Mainwaring), 2 sister-in- laws as well as a niece and a nephew and special friend Wendell Harshman.
The family would like to thank the Alliance Hospice and the staff at Danbury Senior Living for all the loving care and support they provided our mother.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church on August 31, 2019 at 11:00 am.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First United Presbyterian Church to be designated for Camp Limrod, or to the Alliance Community Pantry.
