Mark Philippi's Obituary
Mark Philippi, 92, of Wooster, formerly of Alliance, peacefully passed in his sleep on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 11 :25 p.m. at West View Manor in Wooster. Born on September 25, 1911, in Brandy Camp, PA, the family moved to Alliance in 1923 to the area known as Goat Hill. Mark retired from Morgan Engineering in 1976 after 36 years of employment. He then pursued becoming the unofficial photographer for Alliance events. He shared the pictures with the subjects by giving them free copies. He belonged to the Dante Alighieri Social Club, A.A.R. P., was a charter member of the Alliance Senior Citizens Center and the Hartzell Museum. He received the 1986 Mayor's Citizenship Award. In 1997, Mr. Philippi was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year. He is survived by his son, John (Jean) Philippi of Wooster; four grandchildren, Jeff of Phoenix, Larry of San Diego, Penny of Phoenix, and Mark of Maumee; two great- grandchildren, Jordan and Sarah of Maumee; his sister, Alma Calderone of Alliance; and his special friend of25 years, Jane Smithyman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Crestani) Philippi in 1973; an infant son, Mark; his parents, Emilo and Albina (Leonesi) Philippi; a sister, Palma Yendrich; and brothers, Mike, Abe, and Louis. A Memorial Service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday at 3 :00 p.m. with the Rev. Floyd Costello of the Lafayette United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
