Marius M. "Pat" Sydor's Obituary
Marius M. "Pat" Sydor, 64, of Minerva, died, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, November 04, 2003, at 2:10 a.m. at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, after a valiant 8 year battle with cancer. Born in Alliance on January 19, 1939, Pat graduated from La Salle University with a LLB degree and he moved to Minerva in 1975. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church where he was a Eucharist Minister and a Lector. He was a charter member of the Minerva Knights of Columbus. Retiring from Ravenna Aluminum Industries, he was a former member of the Ohio National Guard for 10 years and he was a member of the American Legion. Pat was a J.C.I. senator from the Alliance Jaycees and in the 1970's chaired the top project for the year which ultimately made the Alliance Jaycees the top chapter of the year. Mr. Sydor was a member of the North Canton Eagles #2223. A past president of the Minerva Lions Club for two terms and a Knight of the Blind Fellow, he was also a recipient of Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest award in the Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Joann (Perri) Sydor; (they were married on Aug. 19, 1961); a daughter, Renee Sydor of Canton; a sister, Theresa Tokarski of Alliance; a brother, Daniel Sydor of Kissimmee, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Catherine (Popovich) Sydor. The family will receive friends at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 400 West High Street, Minerva, on Sunday, November 9, 2003, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Gabriel's on Monday, November 10, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. J. Michael Campbell as celebrant. Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alliance. Arrangements are by Sharer-Stirling- Skivolocke Funeral Home.
