Marion L. "Red" Merryman's Obituary
Marion L. "Red" Merryman, 87, of Alliance, passed away on January 29, 2014, at 5:50 a.m. at Crandall Medical Center. Born on July 22, 1926 in Alliance, he lived in Alliance all of his life. Red served our country in the U. S. Army and afterwards, was a self-employed painting contractor for many years. He enjoyed fishing, volunteering with Gideons and doing mission work for Project Partner in El Salvador, Guatamala, Haiti and Panama. In later years, Red enjoyed life at Copeland Oaks and time spent with friends there. Survivors include his two daughters, JoAnn (Dave) Hodgekin of Alliance, and Paula (Curt) Faber of Louisville; two sons, John T. (Lorie) Merryman of Charleston, SC and David L. (Jeanne) Merryman of Brandenburg, KY; grandchildren Megan (Cass) Anawaty of Portland, OR, John Alexander (Sarah) Merryman of Sydney, Australia, Joshua David Merryman of Charleston, SC, David Brian ( Brenda) Hodgekin, Jeremy Hodgekin, Ron Chambers, Matt Faber and great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Merryman of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Wilma E. (Baylor) Merryman, on September 1, 2005, whom he married on June 13, 1948; his parents, John and Flora (Spies) Merryman; and three brothers, Herbert, Joseph and Arthur Merryman. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Copeland Oakes at another time.
