Marilyn Schmidt's Obituary
Marilyn M. (McCallen) Schmidt, 90, of Sebring, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
She was born on April 28, 1932 in Sharon, Pennsylvania to David and Ruth (Allison) McCallen.
Marilyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maximo.
A 1950 graduate of Brookfield High School, she also graduated from Youngstown College in 1953.
Marilyn was employed at Alba House Communications for over 31 years.
She was a member of the Canfield Lions Club. Marilyn was a track official for the Ohio Special Olympics in Columbus. She volunteered at Akron Children’s Hospital and at St. Vincent dePaul Soup Kitchen in Youngstown. She received the Shepherd of the Valley Foundation Legacy Award for Volunteerism in 2013.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Sue) Schmidt and David (Laura) Schmidt; three daughters, Debra Schmidt, Linda (Bob) Burkey and Diane (Tim) Burke; ten grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Taafe, John (Ally) Burkey, Rachel Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, T.J. Schmidt, Richard Schmidt, Erin (Mason) Stewart, Christopher Burke, Daniel (Brittany) Schmidt and Nathan Schmidt; three great-grandchildren, Maura Tomko, Aubrey Burkey and Ryan Burkey; and two nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband Richard Schmidt, whom she married on August 29, 1953 and who died on February 28, 1998; her parents; and her sister, Dorothy McCallen.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maximo, with Rev. G. David Weikart as celebrant. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Annual Diocesan Appeal of the Diocese of Youngstown.
