Margaret Walker's Obituary
Peg (Kopan) Walker, 88, of Alliance, died on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 10:40 a.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. Born on December 28, 1922 in Alliance, she lived here all of her life. She was a 1939 graduate of Alliance High School. She was a Charter Member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Peg was very active in the Women s Guild, Infant of Prague, Altar & Rosary Society and the Catholic Women s Club. She enjoyed working in the Religious Articles Room at the church. Peg s first job was at Heggy s where she met her future husband. In later years, she was employed at Costal Pet Products. Mrs. Walker was a member of B.P.O. Elks Auxiliary, bowled in several leagues throughout the years and enjoyed playing cards with her card club friends for over 50 years. She was very well known for her knitting, especially her afghans and dish cloths. Her family and friends enjoyed her delicious home cooking. She was an avid traveler, visiting many destinations in Europe, Hawaii and the continental U.S. Peg also enjoyed visiting various casinos with her husband, Jim. She is survived by her loving husband, of 65 years, James "Jim" Walker whom she married on November 23, 1946; daughters, Joan (Richard) Tonelli of Shaker Heights, OH and Janice (Tim) Howman of Athens, OH; son, James J. (Pam) Walker of North Canton, OH; 7 grandchildren, Kaitlin & Christopher Tonelli, Carly & Dustin Walker, Breanne McArthur, and Jake & Zach Howman; 2 great-grandchildren, Miah & Lilinoe; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph & Mary Kopan; and sisters, Emma Grace and Rose Ready. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, December 5, 2011 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m.with the Rev. Fr. Howard Ziemba, as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
