Margaret (Whitaker) Ramsey's Obituary
Margaret (Whitaker) Ramsey, 83, of Alliance, died on Monday, November 16, 2009, at 10:25 a.m. at Alterra Sterling House in Alliance. Margaret was born on June 23, 1926, in Alliance to Fred and Isabel Whitaker, and had lived in Alliance all of her life. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1943 and attended Mount Union College. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Mrs. Ramsey was a member of the Alliance Women s Club, the Alliance Country Club and the Alliance Senior Citizens. She was also a volunteer leader with the YWCA Meals-on-Wheels program and a frequent volunteer for the Alliance Community Hospital, the American Cancer Society and Habitat for Humanity. In her past-time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, cross-word puzzles, refinishing furniture and just about any home improvement project imaginable. In her youth she was an accomplished swimmer and diver. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her faithful and caring children, Barbara (David) Livingston of Pittsburgh, PA, Bob (Nancy) Ramsey of North Canton and Bill (Rebecca) Ramsey of Grand Haven, MI; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Brad, William, Jay, Steven and Martha Ramsey and Erica and Rebecca Livingston; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Miriam Dregich of Alliance; a brother, Robert Whitaker of Mansfield; and 14 nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert P. Ramsey on May 3, 1988, whom she married in 1947; her parents; two sisters, Frances Whitaker and Rhoda Thompson; and three brothers, Jack, Walter and Fredrick Whitaker. A Memorial service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. L. Chris Martin of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Friends are invited to join the family for a celebratory reception following the service at the Alliance Elks from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. There will be no calling hours.
