Lucretia Marie Alfani's Obituary
Lucretia Marie Alfani, 86, of Alliance, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at her home. Born in Alliance on April 13, 1915 to Peter and Elizabeth (Dubre) Zorlenzan, she dedicated her life to helping others. Mrs. Alfani was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a member of St. Nicholas Romanian Church. She volunteered in the office at St. Joseph School and helped raise funds to establish a school cafeteria, where she enjoyed volunteering. She was a past president of the Infant Jesus of Prague Society and she served as secretary of the St. Joseph Alter and Rosary Society. She also ran the St. Joseph Religious Article Store for many years. She was a member of Friends of the Library and the Milton Street Garden Club. She was a trustee, treasurer and past president of the Ladies of the Christopher Columbus Society. She was a member of the Penitentiary Commission, Dante Club, Alliance Hospital Auxiliary, the City Advisory Board, and Mayor's Commission on Aging. She served as past president of the Alliance Senior Citizens and the YWCA Golden Agers. She was a past coordinator for United Way's RSVP, and was a poll worker for 25 years. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Mt. Union College, St. John's Villa, YWCA, and the American Red Cross. She worked the Star Tree every Christmas for the Salvation Anny, and also volunteered for Three-Score Dining Nutrition Center, and Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Alfani received many awards over the years; the 1976 Senior Citizen of the Year; the 1977 Mother of the Year by the Stark County Chapter of Ohio State Mothers Club; the 1979 Woman of the Year by the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce; and the 1991 Solicitor of the Year by the United Way. In recognition for years of service as a Residential Chairperson, she received the United Way Golden Key Award in 1991. She was also the 1991 Carnation City Parade Grand Marshall. She was a past Democrat Woman of the Year, and was given a lifetime membership in the Rockhill School PTA. She was a loving mother to her children, daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Charles Yoho of Wickliffe, Sandra and Robert Hoopes of Wichita, Kansas, Linda and Richard Allison of Alliance, Lucretia and Lawrence Hyett of Gurley, Alabama, and her son Michael of Alliance. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Elizabeth Hubbard of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Ennio in 1999. They owned and operated the Liberty Street Grocery until 1970. She was also preceded by a son Gerald; her parents, Peter and Elizabeth Zorlenzan; brothers, Olympia and Steve Zorlenzan; a sister, Eleanora Benedetti; a son-in-law, Ron Pettit; and one nephew. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling- Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, February 17, 2002, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, February 18, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
