Louis A. Cabassa Jr.'s Obituary
Louis A. Cabassa Jr., affectionately known as "Louie," passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, in Alliance, Ohio, surrounded by his beloved family, including his wonderful wife of 68 years. Known for his witty sense of humor, Louie brought laughter and joy to family gatherings, and his warm spirit touched everyone he met. Those who loved him most knew him as “Papa,” a name that rightfully captured his warmth, reliable strength and the unwavering love he had for his family.
Born on April 4, 1935, in Alliance, Ohio, Louie was the cherished son of Louis and Rose (Sorge) Cabassa. He spent his life in Alliance, where he developed deep roots and lasting friendships. A proud graduate of Alliance High School's Class of 1954, Louie also served his country honorably as a medic in the United States Army.
Louie was a dedicated member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church, actively participating in events like the Mardi Gras Spring Fling. His commitment to community extended to his membership in the Elks Lodge #467 and the American Legion, where he found camaraderie and purpose. He worked for several local establishments, including Transue & Williams Steel Forging Company as a regional sales manager, as well as Wally Armour. However, most knew him as the owner of Louie's Bar, a beloved local spot that was known for its legendary Louie’s Beer Batter Fish.
Louie and his wife, Janice (Murari) Cabassa, shared a love story that began in 8th grade. From that moment, it was history, and they remained devoted to each other for 68 wonderful years. Their love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them—a beautiful testament to how quick-witted charm, unwavering devotion, and shared laughter can be the true foundations of a lasting marriage.
Louie was an avid sports enthusiast, faithfully supporting the Cleveland Guardians, Browns, Mount Union Purple Raiders and Ohio State. He was an avid golfer and achieved a hole-in-one at Tannenhauf Golf Course. However, his greatest pride in life was his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom he loved spending time and lived for their visits and calls. He also thoroughly embraced modern technology, and enthusiastically tracked all of his children and grandchildren on “Find My.” They all know he will continue to watch over them.
Louie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janice, whom he married on January 14, 1956 and their five children, Steven (Pam) Cabassa, Michael (Irene) Cabassa, John Cabassa, Debra (Dave) Piero and Patty (Jeff) Walker; his grandchildren, Kristan (Bill) Preston, Kelly (Sean) Finelli, Steven (Holly) Cabassa, David (Laura) Piero, Mikey Cabassa, Daniel Piero, Jake Walker, Crystal (Robbie) Thompson, Alan-Michael Cabassa, John Cabassa, Jr., Alec (Melissa) Walker, Missy (Brian) McDermitt, Josh Leask, Angela (Jeff) Prato, Candace Sinkovich; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Veronica Cabassa, and several aunts and uncles.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, November 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Regina Coeli Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial and Military Honors will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Louie’s legacy of kindness, faith, and humor will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, especially his beloved family.
