Leman L. "Dick" Vandal's Obituary
Leman L. "Dick" Vandal, 80, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 1:45 p.m., at his home. He was born on November 12, 1929 in Grantsville, WV, to the late Coleman and Stella (Norris) Vandal. Dick was raised in Newcomerstown but lived most of his adult life in Alliance. Mr. Vandal was a U. S. Army veteran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 131 of Leetonia. Dick was formerly an auto mechanic. He was also a country musician, played several instruments, and enjoyed wood-working. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Kathryn (Dobson) Burns Vandal; two sons, Richard (Tina) Vandal of Alliance and Hank Vandal of Alliance; two step-sons, Paul Burns and Mark (Gay Ann) Burns; three step-daughters, Bobbi Jo Burns, Tina (Richard) Vandal and Linda Burns; a step son-in-law, Tom Hathaway; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Walker, Robert "Max" Ferguson, Doug Vandal, Steve (Mandy) Vandal, Chris (Charlene) Burns, Sonya (Matt) Moretta, Tony Burns Tami Benning and Christine Fernandez; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild on the way; a sister, Margaret Dauphin of Quaker City; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, a step-daughter, Denise Carver; two sisters; and three brothers. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, July 12, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Sams of Alliance Evangelical Friends Church officiating. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
