Lawrence F. "Red" Allison's Obituary
Lawrence F. "Red" Allison, 90, of Alliance, died on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:45 a.m. at his residence. He was born on November 12, 1916 in Alliance and was a lifetime city resident. A 1935 graduate of Alliance High School, he was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. In his earlier years of employment, Red had worked at American Steel Foundry and at the Alliance Machine Company. However, Red came from a "Fireman s Family" and followed his father s footsteps, becoming a member of the Alliance Fire Department. He retired as the Assistant Fire Chief and as Acting Chief after 34 years of service. Red was also a long-time member of the Alliance Lion s Club. As a Lion, he served in almost every capacity in Lionism. He was President, Director, Zone Chairman, District Convention Chairman, Carnation Days in the Park Chairman, Rose Day Chairman, Rose Day Routing Chairman and Treasurer for many years. For his many services he was the recipient of the "Lion of the Year" award in 1979-80, and the coveted "Melvin E. Jones Fellow" award in 1992. Lion Red was a 30-year "Old Monarch" having had perfect attendance. His sponsor was the late Lion Ed Winner. His wife Margaret and he will always be remembered for their big family parties and back-yard picnics. Red made home-made ice cream for every occasion. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his four sons; Charles L. (Mariann) Allison of Smyrna, DE, Donald P. (Joyce) Allison of Alliance, Robert A. (Karen) Allison of Jacksonville, NC, and Richard D. (Linda) Allison of Alliance; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Oyster of Alliance; a brother, Robert Allcorn of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. Red was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Margaret A. (Keller) Allison, whom he married on March 28, 1935; his father, Clark Allison who was killed in W.W.I; his step-father and mother, Emmett D. and Ethel (Stevens) Allcorn; three sisters, Dorothy White, Eileen Sams and Frances Allcorn; and two brothers, Ray Allcorn and Emmett D. "Ed" Allcorn, Jr. The Alliance Lion s Club will conduct a service at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 6:45 p.m. The family will then receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. David C. Hostetler of Christ United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
