Kevin L. Gurney's Obituary
Kevin L. Gurney, 51, passed away peacefully March 1, 2016, of a lengthy illness. Kevin was born November 30, 1964 at Alliance Hospital as one of a set of twins. He spent most of his life in Alliance. Kevin was a Shrine patient for 18 years. As a child he loved to ride his bicycle, even riding in two 25 mile bike-a-thons. He was an avid swimmer, participating in the adapted aquatics through the Red Cross. At age 9, Kevin started his lifelong love of bowling, eventually achieving 2 perfect games. He also shared with his brother (Mike) a love for riding motorcycles. Kevin also worked on his collection of “Simplicity” tractors and his favorite 1962 Springfield. Kevin loved fishing off his boat, spent a lot of nights on a lake. Kevin loved his dogs.
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene M. (Toole) Gurney; his brother, Michael R. Gurney; his twin sister, Kathy J. Kunkle; grandparents, Evelyn & Walter Kuntzman, and Lydia & Arley Toole; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and too many friends to mention.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Paula; his father, Gene A. Gurney; his mother-in-law, Helen Wetzel of Massillon; his sisters, Rhonda Curtis, and Lori (Mathew) Fagan, and a brother-in-law, Terry Kunkle, all from around Alliance. Kevin has 4 nieces, Regena Clair, Elizabeth Sorge, Nicole Curtis, and Lisa Curtis; as well as 5 nephews, Tony “Anthony” Kunkle, Brandon Kunkle, Dakota Gurney, Mathew A. Fagan, and Michael E. Gurney. Kevin is also survived by 4 step children, Gary D. Bailey, Keith S. (Megan) Bailey, John W. (Melissa Sue) Bailey, and Marie L. Bailey; and 9 step grandchildren.
Kevin’s wishes were to have no calling hours, public or private. There were no services. The Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert officiated over the burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Canton on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 2:30 PM.
If you mourn well, you will live well, you will love well. Death is not the greatest loss of life. The greatest loss in life is what dies inside you while you live.
