Kenneth F. Swartz's Obituary
Life separated from the body of Kenneth F. Swartz, 100, of Alliance on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 4:45 pm, at Bel Air Senior Living Community. He was born on July 11, 1913 in Connellsville, PA and lived in Alliance for most of his life. He was employed by Strong Manufacturing Company of Sebring and later by B&W Tubular Products from which employment he retired in 1975 after 33 years of service. He was a member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ, where he served in numerous capacities, including Choir Director. He also served as Financial Secretary of the United Steelworkers Union Local 3059 for an extended period of time. His first marriage was to Kathleen Mae (Detar) Swartz, of Greensburg, PA and produced two children: Janis (Wayne) Strom of Naperville, IL, and Ronald Swartz of Glendale Springs, NC. His second marriage to Marie (Johnston) Keenan Swartz expanded his family to include her children: Donald (Bonnie) Keenan, Dean (Pamela) Keenan, and Diana Fontaine. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Julie (Brian) Petersen, Andy (Dawn Shutler) Swartz, Eric Swartz, Aaron (Leigh Ann) Swartz, Rick (Sabine) Strom, Bob (Anne) Strom; his great-grandchildren, Allison Swartz, Scott Strom, Cameron Swartz, and Aiden Swartz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jennie (Firestone) Swartz, and a sister, Naomi Honsaker. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 10:30 am - 11:30 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 am, with Pastor Neal Mann, officiating. Interment will follow at Hartzell Cemetery.
