Kathalene Melzer's Obituary
Kathalene Melzer, 81, of Alliance, died on Sunday, November 14, 2004, at 10:08 a.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. Born in Deerfield on October 1, 1923, she lived in the Alliance area all of her life. A 1941 graduate of Sebring High School, Kathalene worked at the former Taylorcraft Company during World War II as an instrument specialist. Mrs. Melzer was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the DAV Chapter 50 Auxiliary. She was a homemaker, and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (David) Brower of Alliance; a son, Bill (Linda) Melzer of Sebring; two grandchildren, Laura (Jason) Hamby and JoAnna (Jason) Erb; five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Seth Hamby, Morgan, Mackenzie; and Marissa Erb; one niece; and three nephews. Kathalene was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Melzer on July 10, 1998 (they were married on July 25, 1943); her parents, Raymond and Clara (Aushbacher) Courtney; her twin, Pauline Estabrook; and three brothers, Frank Courtney, Donald Courtney, and Floyd Courtney. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Gross, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
