Julius Steve "Jay" Erchick's Obituary
Julius Steve "Jay" Erchick, 92, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 12:40 p.m. at Canterbury Villa of Alliance. Born in Jeannette, PA, on November 14, 1913, Jay had lived in the Alliance area most of his life. Mr. Erchick was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired with 26 years of service from Babcock & Wilcox Tubular where he had been employed as a furnace loader. He always loved to garden. Jay was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #558. He is survived by his wife, Victoria (Burson) Erchick, whom he married on October 31, 1947; two daughters, Judy (Frank) Allison of Atwater and Carol (Richard) Hunt of Alliance; six grandchildren, Diane (Randy) Fotheringham, Frank (Chris) Allison, Kim (Bob) Douce, Jared (Heather) Hunt, Jordan Hunt, and Justin Hunt; six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dylan Fotheringham, Noah and Katie Allison, and Gwyneth and Kyle Douce; two sisters, Katherine "Katie" Short of Alliance and Clara King of Texas; four brothers, Steve Erchick, Joe Erchick, Charles Erchick, all of Alliance and William Erchick of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine (Tegi) Erchick; three sisters, Josephine Dellis, Marie Korleski, and Julia Woolf; a brother, Louis Erchick; and a great-grandson, Nevin Allison. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, February 9, 2006, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Knights of Columbus Prayer Service will begin at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Friday, February 10, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
