Josephine Clunk's Obituary
Josephine Clunk, age 95, of Alliance, passed away on January 27, 2024, at Stone Creek Assisted Living. She was born May 11, 1928, in Massillon, Ohio, to Stephen and Rose (Subr) Kumpf.
Jo or Josie, as most called her, graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1946, where she met her husband, Judge Denny Clunk. They were married June 9, 1951, and were married for 69 years.
Jo was a devoted wife and mother of 5, an adoring grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 26. Her family was her life! She was an avid supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sports activities, an accomplished baker, and a sports enthusiast. She loved doing the March Madness and college football family play-off picks, and more than once she won the “pool”!
Jo lived her faith and was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. All the family knew she would be praying for them and saying the rosary and novenas when tests, interviews, and other important life events were happening. She helped family members find many missing items over the years with her “Dear Saint Anthony prayer”!
She was founder of the Alliance High School Aviator’s Mother’s Club. Jo was a committed resident of the Alliance community with memberships in the Catholic Women’s Club, past president of the Alliance Women’s Club, and past president of the YWCA. Jo received the Alliance Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year Award in 1977 and was recipient of the YMCA’s Service to Youth Award. Service to her community was always an integral part of Jo’s life, and she was proud to see that many of her children and grandchildren have followed her example and carried this forward in their own lives. Along with her family and community involvement, Jo was an avid collector of antiques. With the Judge’s help, she restored old trunks and filled them with antiques that belonged to early family relatives, giving them to her grandchildren at their wedding showers.
She is survived by her sons Roy (Lynne), Dennis (Kathy), Stephen (Jennifer), and David (Sandy); son-in-law Rick Robenstine (Chris); 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable R. R. Denny Clunk; daughter Susan Robenstine; step-grandson, John Shivers; great-granddaughter, Ophelia Robenstine; and her two sisters, Ann Wertz and Nancy Winkhart.
Jo’s motto for staying young was:
Keep moving, keep laughing, keep praying, and keep your hair colored!
The family would like to thank the incredible care givers at Stone Creek in Alliance and Absolute Hospice for the loving care they’ve given Jo.
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to The Alliance Community Pantry, PO Box 2581, Alliance, OH 44601 or to Absolute Hospice, 7171 Keck Park Circle NW,
North Canton, OH 44720.
