Joseph L. Virden's Obituary
Joseph L. Virden, 75, of Alliance, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Alliance Community Hospital. Born on May 13, 1938 in Friendly, WV, he lived in Alliance since 1957. He was a graduate of Sistersville High School and was a member of FFA. He retired in 2003 after 45 years of service with the Alliance Machine Co., where he was employed as a Structural Supervisor. In his past-time, he enjoyed gardening, hunting and camping. Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. (Chiporo) Virden, whom he married on October 12, 1958; three sons, Randall L. Virden of Alliance, Gregory A. Virden of Alliance and Michael A. Virden of Alliance; grandchildren, Jamie L. Clements of Jacksonville, FL, Alexander J. Virden of Alliance, Dylan J. Virden of Sidney, OH, and Alissa Hatfield of Alliance, OH; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Dailey of Friendly, WV and Mary Stine of Newport, OH; a brother, Melvin R. Virden of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Truman Ernest and Edna (Northcraft) Virden. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Stephanie Lee, Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
