Joseph J. Pistillo's Obituary
Joseph J. Pistillo, 83, of Gaffney, SC, formerly of Alliance, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. at his residence. A graduate of Alliance High School, Joe was born in Youngstown on April 9, 1921, and lived most of his life in Alliance before moving to Gaffney eight years ago. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gaffney. Mr. Pistillo was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion, the Dante Alighieri Society, Christopher Columbus Society, and the Marlboro Lions Club. He was also a member of the Gaffney Lions Club. He retired in 1976 from T & W Forge where he had been a millwright Welder for 20 years. Joe is survived by his wife, Jean H. (Damiani) Pistillo, whom he married on January 29, 1944; a daughter, Judy (Ed) Monter of Gaffney; three grandsons, Edward Jr. of Stow, OH, Randy of Memphis, TN, and Joseph of Gaffney; a sister, Rose Dawson of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Teresa (Del Bone) Pistillo; and a sister, Pauline McCormick. Funeral services will be held at Highland Memorial Park Chapel on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
