Joseph W. Longobardi's Obituary
Joseph W. Longobardi, 87, of Beloit, died on Friday, August 5, 2005, at 10:50 a.m. at Pleasantview North Nursing Home in Damascus. He was born in San Cono, Italy on March 19, 1918, and had lived most of his life in the Alliance and Canton areas. Joe had been the owner of Joe s Genie Sales & Service for many years and had retired from Alliance Manufacturing as a shop foreman. Mr. Longobardi was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy. He was also a member of Christopher Columbus Society, and the Mile Branch Grange. He is survived by his wife, Marcella M. (Read) Longobardi of Beloit, whom he married October 22, 1960; a daughter, Donna Hoyle of Sebring; two sons, John J. (Lola) Longobardi of Alliance, and Ralph (Shirley) Oyster of Youngstown; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, June M. (Burns) Longobardi on March 3, 1959; a son, Dellious W. Longobardi; his parents, John Joseph and Concetta (Lopresti) Longobardi; five sisters, Sarah Isgro, Frances Pergola, Concetta Anguilo, Marian Velez, and Mary Rose Rougon; and one brother, Louis Longobardi. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10, 2005, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 11, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Thomas J. McCarthy, officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
