Joseph Joe Kozma's Obituary
Joseph Joe Kozma, 85, of Alliance died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at 7:25 p.m. at home with family at his side. He was born Sept. 5, 1918 in Alliance to the late Joseph and Mary Simon Kozma and lived his entire life in Alliance. He was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church. Mr. Kozma retired from the American Steel Foundries as a welder for 311/2 years. A US Army World War II veteran, he was the first wounded soldier to come back to Alliance from the war. He spent three years in veteran hospitals and received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the V.F. W. and was also a life member and past commander of the D.A.V. Chapter #50. Joe was a trustee for the Carnation Senior Retirees at the Senior Center. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading, fishing, painting and spending winters in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita (Spies) Kozma; two daughters, Joanne (Robert) Hartzell of Alliance and Patricia (John) Southall of Louisville; a granddaughter, Kristen Benedetto, four step grandchildren; four nephews; one niece; and many great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Bums and Eleanor Blevins; and a brother, Stephen Kozma. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling- Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, Decmeber 26, 2003, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. with a D.A. V. club service beginning at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at funeral home on Saturday, December 27, 2003, at 1 :00 p.m. with the Rev. Gordon Ruggles officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
