John W. Vitale's Obituary
John W. Vitale, 66, of Alliance, died on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 11:20 a.m. at Altercare of Alliance. He was born on October 4, 1943 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. John was a 1961 graduate of Alliance High School and attended community college in Illinois. Mr. Vitale was a U. S. Army veteran serving from 1964 - 1965 and was active Army Reserves for several years after his training at the United States Army Armor Center in Ft. Knox, KY. John was a former manager at Buckeye Village Market and was a welder for Alliance Machine Company for 23 years, retiring at their closing. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks #467, a member of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club and the V.F.W. Post 1036. John was an avid bowler and golfer. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Vitale and Larry Stein of Alliance and Lori and Todd Worsencroft of New Middletown; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Craig Massari of Fairview Park; two nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his ex-wife, Shirley Vitale of Salem. Preceding him in death was his biological father, John Joseph Vitale, who died shortly after his birth; his mother, Sara Marie (Vigna) Vitale Massari and his father, August "Tee" Massari. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. A B.P.O. Elks service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
