John Stevens' Obituary
John Stevens, 73, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 12:40 a.m. at his home. He was born on December 7, 1935 in Grahn, KY, and lived most of his adult life in Alliance. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Berlin Crisis. While in the Army, John received his GED. John retired from American Steel, where he operated a transfer car. In his past-time, he enjoyed fishing, going to auctions and flea markets. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (Stephenson) Stevens, whom he married on May 2, 1964; two sons, Jeffrey (Ellen) Stevens and Randy Stevens both of Alliance; five grandchildren, John, Sarah, TJ, Samantha and Seth; a sister, Audrey Stevens of Alliance; a sister-in-law, Pearl Stevens of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Nelson and Sarah (Barker) Stevens; two sisters, Elsie Blevins and Wanda Stevens; and three brothers, Clayton, Luster, and Victor Stevens. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, February 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jimmie Holbrook of Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
