John P. Ray's Obituary
John P. Ray, 85, of Alliance, died on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 10:25 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. He was born on July 16, 1923 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. He was a 1943 graduate of Alliance High School. Mr. Ray was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 44th Infantry Division. John retired from the Alliance Post Office, where he was employed as a postal carrier. After retirement he worked in security at the Mt. Union Bank. He was a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus Council #558 and the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Mr. Ray was an avid golfer and was formerly active in the Alliance little league baseball. John is survived by two daughters, Patty (Phil) Poirier of Pomona Park, FL and Pamela (Gary) Chambers of Alliance; a son, Timothy Ray of Alliance; two sisters, Betty (Marshall) Scaia of Alliance and Josie (Vince) Barrord of Alliance; and three nieces and four nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, John Francis and Mary Kate (Farrell) Ray. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary service at 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Friday, October 3, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
