John J. Popovich's Obituary
John J. Popovich, 75, of Alliance, died on Saturday, August 07,2004 at 3:40 a.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. ~ Born in Alliance, on February 22, 1929, he was a life-long resident of Alliance and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U. S. Army with the 969th Engineer Construction Battalion near Saltzburg, Austria. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036 and also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Lodge and the Minerva Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Mr. Popovich retired in November of 1994 after 33 years of service from the Alliance Machine Company, where he was employed as a crane operator. John's love of flying led him to acquire his private pilot's license. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jean Popovich of Alliance; a step daughter, Deb Rebillot of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Kay (Bort) Rebillot Popovich, on May 17, 1994, (they were married on July 22, 1961); a step daughter, Susan Rebillot and his parents, Bozidor and Barbara (Bankovich) Popovich. The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
