John R. Penny, Sr.'s Obituary
John R. Penny, Sr. 82, of Alliance, passed away on February 18, 2013, at his home following extended illnesses. Born on December 19, 1930 in Alliance, he lived in Alliance all of his life. He attended Alliance High School. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served our country in the U. S. Army. He retired from the T & W Forge, where he was employed as a Millwright. He had previously been employed at American Steel Foundry and the Alliance Machine Co. John loved being surrounded by his family and his beloved dog "Charlie". Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Wilma J. (Renshaw) Penny, whom he married on September 5, 1953; two daughters, Bonnie (George) Schott, Sherry (Todd) Bourne; one son, John R. (Karen) Penny, Jr.; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, with 3 additional expected great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Swinton of RI.; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Clara (Clark) Penny; a sister, Catherine Keeller; and two brothers, William and Kenneth Penny. The family has requested a private memorial service, followed by interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, at Alliance City Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
