John Mayer's Obituary
John Mayer, 96, of Alliance, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Alliance Community Hospital. Born in Fogaras, Transylvania, on November 6, 1905, he had lived most of his life in the Alliance area. He retired in 1974 from the Production Control Department of the Alliance Manufacturing Company. He previously worked at the former McCaskey Register, Plant #1 as a general foreman. He also was a co-owner and operator of Mayer Nursery. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and belonged to the Alliance Saxon Club, Branch 3. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Mary L. Mayer of Alliance; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ethel Frances (Jones) Mayer, whom he had married on September 24, 1927; his parents, John Andrew and Whilhelmina (Cerschen) Mayer; three sisters, Freda Mayer, Minnie Gottschling, and Helen Girscht; and a brother, Karl F. Mayer. Private services will be held. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
