John Kovacic's Obituary
John Kovacic, 79, of Alliance, died on Wednesday, August 11,2004, at 1:10 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Youngstown on December 7, 1924, he lived in Alliance most of his life. He was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Mr. Kovacic retired from the Alliance Post Office in 1981 after 30 years of service as a postal clerk. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and had been in the Philippine Theater where he received two Bronze Stars. He also served in the Pacific Theater where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, DA V Chapter 50, VFW, and a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was an avid reader, a fisherman, and a talented woodworker. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Frank) Kovacic (whom he married August 9, 1952); daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Scott Moore of Columbus, Julie and Steve Hoopes of Minerva, Ann Frank of Alliance and Mary and Brian Klock of Perrysburg; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cheri Kovacic of Wichita, Kansas, and Matthew and Betsy Kovacic of Ravenna; 14 grandchildren, Abby and Seth Moore, Stephanie and Monica Hoopes, Deanne Frank, Jonathan and Amy Klock, Jill, Erin, Sara, and Bryn Kovacic, and Ellie, David and Ben Kovacic; a brother, Joe Kovacic of MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Barbara (Spanich) Kovacic; a sister, Helen Kovacic; and a brother, George Kovacic. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Knights of Columbus Prayer Service will be held on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Seifert as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
