John J. Holland, Sr.'s Obituary
John J. Holland, Sr., 83, of Alliance, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 8:40 am at Rose Lane Health Center in Massillon, Ohio.
Born on March 2, 1933 in Alliance, Ohio to John J. and Grace (Skiles) Holland, he lived in Alliance for most all of his life.
He retired to Lake Placid, Florida and was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Lake Placid, FL.
A 1951 graduate of Alliance High School, John was employed at American Steel Foundry as a Production Machine Foreman and Machinist and retired after more than 30 years of service.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served our country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036 and the American Legion, Post 166 in Alliance.
John was proud of his 24 years of sobriety, and was very active in AA in both Alliance and Lake Placid.
He was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Lou Wilson of Alliance; a daughter, Colleen S. (Steven) Erisey of Alliance; his son, John J. (Beth) Holland Jr. of Shallotte, NC; three grandchildren, Christopher R. (Jaimie Marie Salcido) Holland of Watertown, NY; Lindsey D. (Josh Nagle) Holland of Massillon and Allison S. Erisey of Alliance; seven great-grandchildren, Desai, Bryor, Ronin, Naudia, Joshua, James and Isaac; and nephews, Michael (Cindy) Wilson, and James (Debbie) Wilson; and many other nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his grandparents who raised him and his sister, Lawrence and Bertha Skiles; his grandparents, Stephen and Margaret Holland; and a niece, Kathy Diver.
At his request, a casual Celebration of Life Gathering with light refreshments will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Alliance First Friends Church Pavillon.
Burial of remains will take place at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery in Leetonia, Ohio.
