John Louis Francis' Obituary
John Louis Francis, 89, of Alliance, died on October 4, 2012, at 1:45 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on August 31, 1923 in Akron, and lived in Alliance all his married life. John was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Francis was talented in working with wood. He built their home and created toys and hundreds of canes that he gave as gifts. He retired from the Phillips Machine Company and had also been employed at Tolerton Lumber Co. for over 20 years. John was a member of the Mended Hearts Club, the William Penn Club and Alliance Senior Citizens. In his past-time, he enjoyed traveling and had visited all fifty states. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Buzogany) Francis whom he married on June 30, 1951; two daughters, Kathe (Alan) Oberholzer of Canton, and Sherri (Todd) Bowyer of Alliance; a son, William (Beth) Francis of Denver, CO; four grandchildren; Jonathan and Holly Fankhauser, and John and William Francis; a great-granddaughter, Skylar Fankhauser; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Louis and Katie (Janski) Francis; a sister, Rose Naswadi; and three brothers, Louis, Steven and Gabor Francis. The family will receive friends at First United Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 12, 2012, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. James McCurdy officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
