John C. "Jack" Definbaugh's Obituary
John C. "Jack" Definbaugh, 78, of Beloit, formerly of Alliance, passed away on Sunday, May 07, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital from an extended illness. Born in Mt. Olivett, OH, on January 27, 1928, Jack was a 1946 graduate of Barnesville High School. He served in the United States Air Force in Wiesbaden, Germany from 1946-1950, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Jack returned to marry the love of his life, Kathryn Rosalie Green on July 1, 1950. They celebrated their 50th anniversary just prior to her passing on December 5, 2000. Moving to Alliance in 1951, he worked a few years at B & W Rush Street, and then began working at the former Cope Furniture Co. Jack was well known in the tri-county area for his furniture touch-up and refinishing. He retired in 1998. He was an avid sports fan especially loving the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He was well known for playing softball in area leagues and he coached his sons Little League teams. He also loved to fish, hunt, and camp at Paradise Lake. Mr. Definbaugh was a member of the American Legion Post #166 and of the Sebring V.F.W. #6730. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Brian Moll of Reynoldsburg, OH; two sons, Michael A. Definbaugh of Louisville and John "Greg" Definbaugh of Beloit; six grandchildren, Jason, Haley, Eric, Mandy Definbaugh and Lauren and Andrew Moll; six great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Tom Burkhart of Zanesville, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife, "Rosie"; two sons, Larry Edward in 1952 and Robert Scott in 1969; one granddaughter in 1978; and his parents, Carl and Suzanne (McBurney) Definbaugh. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday May 9, 2006, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Rick Sams officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
