John Otis Benner's Obituary
John Otis Benner, 83, of Alliance, died early Sunday morning, November 7, 2010, at Sterling House of Alliance. He was born on July 29, 1927 in Homeworth, Ohio and received his education at Goshen High School. He had lived in the Alliance area all of his life. A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served our country in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion, George D. Worth Post in North Georgetown. Mr. Benner was a self employed Mason and Carpenter and was a retired owner of the Mt. Union Car Wash & the West Main St. Car Wash. A member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #2174, he was also a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts Troop #147 of Homeworth. In his past-time, he enjoyed hunting, roller skating and dancing, but his passion was working. He is survived by three daughters, Lillian (Harold) Wilson of Salem, Nancy (James) Bennett of Salem and Linda (Tom) Hall of Alliance; a son, Dick (Lee) Benner of Clancy MT; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Betty Hughes of Sebring. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Annie (Stroup) Benner; four sisters, Luella Kornbau, Thelma Stewart, Evelyn Kasso and Helen Murphy; and five brothers, Dillon Benner in infancy, Ray Benner, Chuck Benner, Walt Benner and Hugh Benner. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services, with military honors provided by the American Legion, George D. Worth Post of North Georgetown, will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
