John F. Andress' Obituary
John F. Andress, 83, of Alliance, died on Monday, January 27, 2003, at 7:50 p.m. at the Alterra Sterling House of Alliance. A life long resident of Alliance, he was born on April 29, 1919, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Andress was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1036, American Legion Post 166, and the US Navy LST Association of Oregon, Ohio. He had been employed as a designer at Graham and Wagner Monuments and retired as Assistant Superintendent of the Alliance Street Department. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #2374 of Louisville, Loyal Order of the Moose #362, B.P .0. Elks #467. He was also a member of the Wm. Penn Athletic Club and the Trentino Alpine Club. Survivors include three daughters, Carol (Ronald) Kimes of Chagrin Falls, Georgene (W. John) Gross of Alliance, and Paulette (David) Ardeeser of Loganville, GA; a son, John L. (Sally) Andress of Bennington, VT: seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Palma Agnes (Bortoli) Andress on October 25, 2000 (they were married on November 23, 1939); his father, John B. Andress; and his mother and step-father Mary (Clair) and Theodore Fording. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30, 2003, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, January 31, 2003, at 11 :00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery .
