John Q. "Jack" Adams' Obituary
John Q. "Jack" Adams, 91, of Alliance, died on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7:20 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. Born on September 30, 1920 in Addison Twp., in Gallia Co., Ohio, He was a 1939 graduate of Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis, Ohio. Jack had lived in Alliance since 1942. A veteran of World War II, he served our country from 1942 - 1946 in the U. S. Navy, on the USS Charleston. He was a member of the VFW Post 1036. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he had served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Funtasticks Senior Group. He retired in 1985 from the Alliance Manufacturing Co., where he was employed as a Tool & Die Maker for over 35 years. Mr. Adams was a member of Swinging 60 s Bowling League at the College Plaza. A Pilot for most of his life, Jack loved to take to the air. If he wasn t at home, he was at the airport. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Herron) Adams, whom he married on June 17, 1950; two daughters, Linda Adams of Alliance and Kathleen Herold of Cleveland, OH; a brother, Derry Adams of Gallipolis, Oh; a brother-in-law, Charles Gilfilen of Gallipolis, Oh; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his parents, Thomas and Nettie (Lawrence) Adams; and a sister, Bonita Gilfilen. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, May 14, 2012, from 11:00 - 12:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, May 14, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Matthew M. Mankowski as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
