Rev. Joe Peters' Obituary
Rev. Joseph A. Peters, 94, of Alliance, passed away and was reunited with his wife Carol on Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home in Alliance.
Born on July 9, 1929 in Lorain, to Albert and Cora (Orsinger) Peters, he lived in Alliance most of his life.
A 1947 graduate of Alliance High School, Joe was a member of Science Hill Community Church.
Following high school, he was a career U.S. Air Force Veteran serving our country during the Vietnam Era. Upon retirement from the U.S. Air Force, Joe taught Air Force ROTC at Warren Western Reserve High School where he was also a track coach.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036 and was member and Chaplain of the American Legion Post 166.
He was Chaplain and Photographer for Lexington Twp. Fire Department and Chaplain for Alliance Community Hospital and Alliance Hospice for many years.
Rev. Peters was a minister at Atwater Congregational Church, Edinburg United Church of Christ and Myers United Church of Christ.
Joe was an active Red Cross Blood Donor, a member of Alliance Lions Club and a former Boy Scout Leader.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jo Myers and Nancy Peters both of Alliance; four sons, Bruce Peters of Colorado Springs, CO, Craig Peters of Alliance, Dana Peters of Bradenton, FL and Jon (Lori) Peters of Alliance; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Carol A. (Addison) Peters, whom he married on December 26, 1947 and died on July 13, 2015; his parents; five brothers, Norm, John, Bob, Ed and Francis Peters; and a sister, Mary Agnes "Mayi" Eskay.
His Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11:00 am at Highland Memorial Park, with Rev. Jon Truax, of Science Hill Community Church, officiating. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow.
