Joe R. Grimm's Obituary
Joe R. Grimm, 78, of Alliance, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 9:15 a.m. at Alliance Community Hospital surrounded by his wife and family. Born in New Philadelphia on August 5, 1927, Joe lived in Alliance all of his life and was an Alliance High School graduate. A veteran of World War II, Joe served in the US Navy. Before signing up for the service, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a major league pitcher. He was a butcher at the A & P Grocery for thirty years and was also employed as a custodian for West Branch Schools for ten years. Mr. Grimm was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Meat Cutters Union #427, and of the Alliance VFW Post #1036. Joe had several hobbies and truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and arrowhead hunting. But by far, the most important love of his life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Twyla R. (Wood) Grimm whom he married on April 3, 1948; four daughters, Jo-Ann Layne of Alliance, Linda (Jim) Wayt of Alliance, Tina (Bob) Workman of Deerfield, and Mary-Lou (Paul) Hahlen of Beloit; six sons, Robert (Judy) Grimm of Brandywine, WV, Tom (Donna) Grimm of Minerva, Tim (Deb) of Winona, OH, Jim (Beth) of Damascus, Rex Grimm of Homeworth, and Cliff Grimm of Alliance; 24 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Grimm of Beloit; several nieces and nephews; and many friends the family considered as being adopted. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford W. and Ruby C. (Keen) Grimm; a sister, Velma K. Cassidy; and a brother, Donald Grimm. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, April 20, 2006, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
