Joe Calderone's Obituary
Joe Calderone, 90, of Alliance, died on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at 3:40 p.m. at Canterbury Villa of Alliance. Born in California, PA, on May 26, 1914, Mr. Calderone lived in Alliance since 1930. Joe retired from American Steel Foundries where he had been employed as an annealer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and belonged to the Christopher Columbus Society, and the Dante Alighieri Society. Joe was a loving father and grandfather. He loved to cook and could be seen several times a day taking his daily walks. He especially enjoyed sharing his prepared dishes with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all his family, friends, and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Alma M. (Phillippi) Calderone whom he married on November 30, 1940; two daughters, Angela (Angelo) Tortora of Las Vegas, NV and Sara (Robert) Baumgartner of Alliance; six grandchildren, Chuck (Julie) Tortora, Krista Tortora, Gioia (Tortora) (Paul) Kurpik, Gina Tortora and her fianc , Gershon Alcantara, Robert Baumgartner and Brian Baumgartner; two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Elizabeth Kurpik; three sisters, Jennie Kallas of Alliance, Mary Schmidt of Phoenix, AZ, and Josephine Marsh of Kempner, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Angelina (Marese) Calderone; his father and step-mother, Angelo and Sarah Calderone; a sister, Carmella Zipparo; a step-sister, Frances Brandani; three brothers, Tom Calderone, Andy Calderone, and Ned Calderone; and a step-brother, Andy Bounafede. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht officiating. Internment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
