Joan B. Flais' Obituary
Joan B. Flais, 81, of Alliance, died on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:56 p.m. at her home. She was born on October 4, 1930 in Valatie, New York, and received a B.S. Degree in Biology from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Joan was a former teacher and a full time mother. She was very strong in her faith and involvement with her church and also enjoyed reading and traveling. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, L. Robert Flais, whom she married on April 4, 1959; three daughters, Anne (Brian) Gerber of Payne, OH, Margaret "Meg" (Ward) Ivan of Parker, CO and Joan (Chris) Wire of Dayton, OH; five sons, Robert "Bob" Flais of Nutley, NJ, John (Becky) Flais of Summerfield, NC, Michael (Shelly) Flais of New Lenox, IL, Martin (Jami) Flais of Upper Arlington, OH and Paul (Kristine) Flais of Dayton, OH; 23 grandchildren; a sister, Anna Becker of Valatie, NY; and 26 nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Anna (Novak) Becker; two sisters, Kathryn (Becker) Kelly and Jane (Becker) Wills; two brothers, George Becker and William Becker; one nephew; and one niece. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, 2011, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Matthew M. Mankowski as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
