Jennie (Calderone) Kallas' Obituary
Jennie (Calderone) Kallas, 85, of Alliance, died on Friday, March 30, 2007, at 8:30 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. Born on July 16, 1921 in Verona, Pennsylvania, she had lived in Alliance most of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Jennie had been a ticket taker and usher at the former Strand, Morrison and Columbia Theaters in her youth. Through the years, she had been employed at the former Armours, B&W Tubular Products and Cope Furniture. She retired from the Alliance Manufacturing Company, where she was employed as an inspector. Jennie was an honorary member of the Dante Alighieri Society, where she and her husband George had previously managed. She loved playing bingo, cards and games of chance. She is survived by daughters, Sarah Lynn Alworth of Alliance, Melanie Duckworth Kallas of Pompano Beach, FL, Shelia Berwinkle of Canal Fulton, OH, and Joyce Vanlue of ID; a son, George Steven Coiner of MI; two grandchildren, John Nicholas Duckworth of Pompano Beach, FL and Richard Theodore Alworth of the home; two sisters Mary Schmidt of Phoenix, AZ, and Josephine Marsh of Kempner, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Kallas in 1989, whom she married on May 7, 1955; a daughter, Sherrie Ann Kallas; her parents, Angelo Calderone and Sarah (Civello) Bonafede Calderone; sisters, Frances Brandani and Carmella Zipparo; and brothers, Joe Calderone, Andy Bonafede, Ned Calderone, Little Andy Calderone, and Tom Calderone. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
