James "Jim" Summer's Obituary
James "Jim" Summer, 67, of Maximo, OH, died on Monday, January 4, 2010, at 6:30 a.m. at Select Specialties, Mercy Medical Center in Canton, OH. He was born on October 24, 1942 in Salineville, Ohio, and lived in the Alliance area most of his life. Jim graduated from United High School. As a student there, he received many awards, including being named All State Honorable Mention as a forward for United's basketball team. For 33 years, he held the record for most career points scored. He was also honored as MVP. He was also on the football and track teams. Later, he continued his love of all things competitive as one of the original founders of the Alliance Little Aviators Football Program. Following high school, Jim attended Muskingum College. He retired from Lordstown Lease Way after 25 years of employment. He had also worked at Lavery's and several other car dealerships. Mr. Summer was a Mason, and was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #467 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1036. Jim enjoyed food, traveling to Germany, golfing, going to casinos and playing cards, especially with his poker buddies at Ernie's Barber Shop. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Summer, whom he married on August 12, 1994; daughters Kim (Jeff) Swetye, Tanya (Shane) Smith, Amanda Dramble, Naudia Dramble; sons Jeff (Lisa) Summer, Jason (Diana) Summer, Darren (Peg) Dramble; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece, Beverly (James) Booth. Preceding him in death were his parents, Everett and Francis (Wilson) Summer; and one sister, Marcylle Summer. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald Feicht of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. According to Jim's wishes, cremation will follow.
