James J. Ryland's Obituary
James J. Ryland, 89, of Sebring, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at 10:50 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on June 21, 1921 in Connellsville, PA, and had resided in Sebring for the past 10 years, prior to living in Massillon. A veteran of World War II, he served our country in the U. S. Army Air Corps. James was a member of Sebring United Methodist Church. He retired from the Norfolk and Western Railway Co., where he was employed as a District Claim Agent. Mr. Ryland was a member of the Massillon American Legion and the 355th Fighter Group Association. In his past-time, he enjoyed camping, gardening and reading. James is survived by his wife, Lois C. (Connell) Ryland whom he married on January 31, 1947; three sons, James A. Ryland of Shippensburg, PA, William E. Ryland of Charleston, SC and Mark G. Ryland of Stow; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, James J. and Kathryn (McClean) Ryland; and a sister, Jane Rush. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 7, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Parry of Copeland Oaks and the Rev. George Schreckengost of Sebring United Methodist Church, co-officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens in Canton.
