James S. Hewitt's Obituary
James S. Hewitt passed away on December 9, 2005, at Alliance Community Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Ravenna on March 3, 1928, to the late Russell and Martha (Frey) Hewitt. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a Corporal in the Army, stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged in September, 1952. It was in Germany that he met and married his wife Charlotte. He was a life-long resident of Alliance and was retired from Prudential as an insurance underwriter. Jim had been extremely active in the community. He was a life member of the Alliance Elks, Lodge #467, where he also served on the Youth Activities and Scholarship Committee. He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Stark County Community Mental Health Board and the Eastern Stark County Mental Health Foundation. His passion for singing was always evident and he enjoyed many hours performing with the Alliance Senior Chorus. Jim also looked forward to his yearly fishing trips to Canada and his summer golf outings with his friends. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte L. (Grundmann) Hewitt; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathy Hewitt of Canton; granddaughter, Lesley DiRocco of Canton; sister, Donna Jean Larson of Sun City Center, FL; niece, Rhonda (Bruce) Hopkins of Cherry Hill, VA; and nephew, Jan (Nancy) Larson of Delaware, OH. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dale and Vance. There will be no services or calling hours.
