James B. Giovanini
James Boyd “Jim” Giovanini, age 82, of Louisville, was called home into eternal life on Friday, June 19, 2015 following a courageous nine year battle with cancer at Aultman Compassionate Care Center in Canton, Ohio. Even though his last few years were challenging, his great sense of humor and will to live remained.
He was born on June 3, 1933 in Alliance, Ohio and was a 1951 graduate of Alliance High School and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Jim was a patriotic man, and proud to serve in the United States Coast guard from 1952-1955. He earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Administration after receiving his education from Ohio State University and Kent State University. He taught Industrial Arts at the former B.F. Stanton Jr. High School and at Diversified Cooperative Training at Alliance High School. Following his teaching career, he became the principal at Brown Local High School in Malvern. He later became principal of Lake High School, where he completed his career in education and later retired. Following retirement, Jim kept busy with various jobs and volunteer work. He served on the Cemetery Board at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance for many years.
Jim was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. Nothing gave him more pleasure than hosting reunions for friends and family, playing bocce, listening to polka music, and cooking for his family. Some of the things he enjoyed the most were sports cars, motorcycles, boating, woodworking, tennis, golf, bicycling, and traveling. One of his favorite places to spend time through the years was his farm in Bergholz, Ohio.
