James Peter Giovanelli's Obituary
James Peter Giovanelli, 89, of Louisville, formerly of Alliance, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 5:30 a.m., at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. He was born on February 21, 1920 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. James was a 1938 graduate of Alliance High School and retired as a machinist from Alliance Machine Company in 1983, after 43 years of service. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II stationed in the Naval Ordinance Testing Station in Inyokern, CA. Mr. Giovanelli was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance and was a Lay Minister. James was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #558, the K of C Bowling League, the Christopher Columbus Society and the Dante Alighieri Society. In his past-time, he enjoyed bowling, golf, playing bocce, working puzzles and watching the Cleveland Indians. He is survived by his wife, Daria Mary (Baroni) Giovanelli whom he married on August 8, 1942; two sons, Gary (Theresa) Giovanelli of Highland, IN and Mark (Phyllis) Giovanelli of Iowa City, IA; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was a grandson, Jeremy; his parents, Joseph and Josephine (Rosa) Giovanelli; and two sisters, Perena Herron and Minnie Miculan. At his request, arrangements include cremation. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Alsatian Apartments, 2300 Reno Drive, Louisville, OH, (near St. Thomas Aquinas High School). The Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht of St. Joseph Catholic Church will celebrate the Mass. Following the Mass there will be a memorial gathering at the Alsatian from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
