Jim Ferguson call sign N8DZA was my friend and mentor when I got into ham radio first taking a class in Morse code at Alliance hospital in 1990. He loved the digital modes and had lots of homemade equipment. Every year he would bring out his equipment at the coronation mall and demonstrate hammer radio for the public. He was a great guy and he will be missed.
Please accept my sincere condolences. I knew Jim through the Alliance Amateur Radio Club. He was a great ham radio operator; knowledgeable, courteous, and a friendly mentor to all. I especially enjoyed chatting with him at meetings and during club outings. We will all miss him.
I can't think of anything else to say that already hasn't been said . Jim was a great guy and enjoyed teaseing me as the younger kid on the block but I always took it as alot of fun . He was a Mentor to alot of new comers in the Hobby we all love and was guideing all towards the rigfht direction to take to do thing properly in order to avoid problems in the future, because he had learned by the mistakes and didn't want others to make the same mistakes . I'm rambling on here , I'll really miss Jim. AR
I remember Jim from High School,from the early days of club station W8LKY, Alliance Civil Defense. We worked together for about a year at WSOM-FM, 105.1 in Salem in 1960-61...Then we lost touch, and I'll always be sorry for that. May he rest in Peace. Bill Glasser W8EQV
I knew Jim From the Alliance Amateur Radio Club. He was always friendly and a bit mischevious. I remember working Jim on 2 meter RTTY which was not a mode most people used. We'll miss you Jim.
I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of my friend Jim. I had known Jim for many years having had the opportunity to work with him during his time at The Genie Company and as a member of the Alliance Amateur Radio Club. Jim always had a warm greeting for me no matter where or when we met. Amateur Radio has lost a fine member and I have lost a good friend. My condolences to Jim's family. I have known Jim since 1966 when he taught ham radio theory and I got my novice license in 1967. I also worked at the Alliance Mfg and ride motorcycles. I now live in northern California and when I would get back to Alliance I would try to visit with Jim. God's speed K8LTG.
Jim will be greatly missed by the Ham community and community in general. He would help anyone and was fun to be aeround.
